The flagship of the Pacific fleet, the guards missile cruiser "Varyag" arrived in South Korean port Busan before the American aircraft carrier Carl Winson, suddenly diverted to Korea from a course to Australia.

The arrival of Russian ships was announced by Korean navy. Cruiser "Varyag" and a mid-range sea tanker "Pechenga" arrived in Busan with a friendly visit to carry out a series of joint exercises between Russian and Korean seamen, and to discuss plans for further cooperation. The ships will stay in Busan until April 14, and then continue long-distance ocean voyage to seven foreign ports.

- The main goal of the visit is a demonstration of St. Andrew's flag in the Asia-Pacific region
- was explained at the headquarters of the Pacific fleet. In January, Busan was visited by the large antisubmarine ship of the Pacific fleet, "Admiral Tributs" and tanker "Boris Butoma".

On April 9 the nuclear aircraft carrier Carl Winson was ordered in Singapore to cancel a planned visit to Australia and urgently head North of the Pacific to the Korean peninsula. The Pentagon explained change of plans by the need for the show of force after the missile tests of DPRK.
